Great Shows Ruined by Bad Endings

So yesterday a show I used to watch ended. I watched How I Met Your Mother and own the first seven seasons. I liked the first few seasons but felt that as it went on longer and longer, the premise was getting old. Five seasons, maybe six would have been long enough.

But that is besides the point. The ending sucked. After all this build up its discovered that the mother, who was the macguffin of the entire show and was supposed to be the love of Ted's life DIED OFF SCREEN! What?!?! Oh and he is still hung up on Robin?!?! Ugh

Final episodes can help a series live on or kill it. The ending of MASH was, and still is one of the best. It was heartfelt and made with all the feels. Then it gave every character, even some of the minor ones, a final scene. It was just great. I want to re-watch it often and by such I want to go and watch the entire series.

Then there were endings like The Sopranos. It truly just stopped. Ya that's one cheap cop out. Do I want to go back and watch the series? Nope.

Lost. Eh actually if you see it the ending is pretty good, and not what everyone says. It works really good when you actually see it.

So does the jorney matter or is the goal more important for TV shows. I think it depends. If the show is average and the ending is average then who cares. If the show sucks then the ending is great then ya the ending is more important. But if the show is really good, well loved and enjoyed, then the ending must be as good or else it will cloak the entire series as a failure, killing the chances for syndication or sales on dvd  I don't own the last three seasons of the show and now knowing how it ends I have no rush to go and get it.

Will I watch it? eh eventually on Netflix, but I have no rush to go see it.
