So yesterday a show I used to watch ended. I watched How I Met Your Mother and own the first seven seasons. I liked the first few seasons but felt that as it went on longer and longer, the premise was getting old. Five seasons, maybe six would have been long enough.
But that is besides the point. The ending sucked. After all this build up its discovered that the mother, who was the macguffin of the entire show and was supposed to be the love of Ted's life DIED OFF SCREEN! What?!?! Oh and he is still hung up on Robin?!?! Ugh
Final episodes can help a series live on or kill it. The ending of MASH was, and still is one of the best. It was heartfelt and made with all the feels. Then it gave every character, even some of the minor ones, a final scene. It was just great. I want to re-watch it often and by such I want to go and watch the entire series.
Then there were endings like The Sopranos. It truly just stopped. Ya that's one cheap cop out. Do I want to go back and watch the series? Nope.
Lost. Eh actually if you see it the ending is pretty good, and not what everyone says. It works really good when you actually see it.
So does the jorney matter or is the goal more important for TV shows. I think it depends. If the show is average and the ending is average then who cares. If the show sucks then the ending is great then ya the ending is more important. But if the show is really good, well loved and enjoyed, then the ending must be as good or else it will cloak the entire series as a failure, killing the chances for syndication or sales on dvd I don't own the last three seasons of the show and now knowing how it ends I have no rush to go and get it.
Will I watch it? eh eventually on Netflix, but I have no rush to go see it.

Doctor Who Season 1 of the New Series
So been watching Doctor Who again, started at the first season of the relaunch knowing what I know now and have realized somethings. First off Eccleston's Doctor is really much more interesting than I remembered. With what we now know happened his character acting like he did is so understandable. He was broken so badly since he (thinks) that he just killed his entire species off to save well everything. He is trying to find who he is again, and I think trying to see if he is still worthy and deserving of the name The Doctor.
His companions were well... ugh. First he gave us Captain Jack Harkness. Jack is amazing and one of the best characters in Doctor who and one of my favorite for the new series. His chatacter is very big and brash and everything we came to love about Jack. No complaints here at all.
Rose Tyler. Ah Rose. Ok I don't like Rose. My dislike for her grew more in the second season, but I'll explain why that is later. Why I dislike her for this season. She is really boring. I can not, fopr the life of me explain her character other than screams, does stupid and never stands up to the Doctor. A friend of mine complains that this Doctor was the first to kill, or murder some one. Umm no, Troughton did that (The Dominators comes to mind) Hartnell was willing to bash a guys skull in with a rock simply because he was slowing them down (An Unearthly Child.) Why? Because he is a Time Lord and to the Time Lords everyone else was a lower species and less than they were. But unless those people were really really really really evil and the Doctors warning didn't scare them away then they were not killed. I have a point, almost there. In the second episode when the Doctor summons Cassandra back and lets her explode, I am really ok with what he did. Rose however did fuck all. No she meekly says no. When Hartnell's Doctor took the rock to kill a guy, his companion Ian got in his way and stopped him, where as Rose didn't do anything. And that pissed me off. The companion is there to hold the Doctor back, to give him persective on things and to (essentially) be good. But oh no, Rose did nothing! To me she never recovered, All she did after this was scream and be stupid. She did a little good in the last episode but it was only because she didn't like being sent home. Though it did lead to Captain Jack becoming a fixed point and the Doctor regenerating, so that zeros out the whole idea.
Then there is Adam. Oh gods this guy. I honestly think that he was put in to hide how aweful Rose was. He is there for two episodes and what does he do? He is a minor character in the first story and then is a pure dumbass in the second. Ya Totally the worst companion ever. Doubt anyone can disagree.
The stories were interesting. It was a lot of do something and then come back later and see what happened because of this. Outside of UNIT and Peladon during the Third Doctors run, I dont remember that happening. But it was showing the Doctor what happens when he, for lack of a better term, plays god with people. Also explains what happened between the end of the origional run and created some interesting arguments, like the slitheen family being raised this way. Or the saving and damning of humanity with satellite 5. The worst episode was the one where Rose went back to see her dad and caused time to shit itself. Interesting concept but just proved why Rose should have been sent home way earlier.
But overall I enjoyed this series. And I remember the original run and how excited I was for the next season and the new Doctor. -sigh-

JewWario
So last week, Justin 'JewWario' Carmical committed suicide.
I never met him and really wish i did. I watched his videos from either thatguywiththeglasses.com or his own site youcanplaythis.com and often had sat in on his Friday live chats. He always came across as a very happy energetic person. I know that often people present one thing, but it sounded like this was exactly how he was. But, unfortunately there was a underlying problem that he suffered from depression. I have no real idea how he was, as I know of it, and have done some reading for personal reasons, but I can not imagine the storm that raged in his mind.
He was one of the internet personalities that I have always wanted to met. Hells he was at the top of that list.I am greatly saddened that I had to take him off.
I will continue to re-watch all his videos to remember him, and to smile and be happy.
I remember sitting in on the live chat where he said this quote to the camera and I am eternally grateful that someone caught it and it is now on YouTube. I feel that it sums up how he felt about everyone and will always, always now bring tears to my eye.
Rest in Peace Justin, and may whatever demons that tormented you in life be silenced.

Dissapointed in where DC comic movies are going
So casting news has been hitting a lot lately for Superman vs Batman. Now I am a huge DC comics fan but will admit they have their flaws. I only read 2 currently (Batgirl and Earth-2) I do keep up on some of what is going on. But as for movies there hasn't been a good one in a number of years.
With the DC movies in the past, well the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy was really good, for what it was, though the third one was a weak Batman movie but a decent Bruce Wayne movie. But before that the haven't been a lot of good movies. I mean there wasn't a lot to choose from, really since 1978 there have been 2 good Superman movies (Superman 1 and 2,) 2 good Batman movies (Batman and Batman Returns) an entertaining one of each (Superman 3 and Batman Forever) and then seven bad ones (Superman 4, Supergirl, Batman & Robin, Steel, Catwoman, Jonah Hex and Superman Returns) and one giant cluster fuck piece of shit (Man of Steel.) Green Lantern was entertaining, with one flaw (why did they name the bad guy Parallax?) and Watchmen was good. Apparently there were also 2 Swamp Thing movies, but I have never heard of them before today.
So why am I not caring about Superman vs Batman? Well the first tip why was where I put Man of Steel. I have not seen it but I have no plans ever to. Why? Well I have seen enough reviews and commentaries about it, bias and unbiased to tell me everything I would want to know about it. But my mind was made up long before the movie came out. The first trailer that came out had the scene with Johnathan Kent (Kevin Costner) talking to teenage Clark about saving the bus full of kids, when Clark asked should i have let them die and Johnathan says maybe. Maybe? No BULLSHIT!!!! That is not what that character would ever EVER say! The answer was yes, you should have saved them, it was the right thing to do, but you should have tried harder to have stayed hidden. Help people but stay hidden. This movie says no stay hidden, stay hidden, stay hidden, stay hidden! Just from that one trailer scene, to me this movie showed that they have no realy grasp on the characters they are working with. They compleatly buggered up Pa Kent , who built the foundation of Superman,
Oh and since I am ranting, Pa Kent suicide by tornado. Ok that was another stupid decision. In every other version Pa Kent dies in, he has a heart attack. This is so that Clark knows that sometimes there are things that happen that he has no control over or that he can do anything about. But in this one he goes out and makes a 'noble' sacrifice to keep his son safe. The son who could have easily gotten the dog back quicker (even if he wasn't super.) But oh no don't save me son, instead I'll traumatize you by dying in a way that you could have easily save me from. And then never show Clark dealing with what happens, he just wanders around for a decade or so, This is a movie, for things like this you must show at least two scenes, one of the grief stricken character and another with them moving on. Same thing with at the end when Superman kills Zod.
As for the killing thing, Superman does not kill. Superman will always do everything possible, and then some to avoid killing. He will throw himself infront of other and take the beating himself to save one person. Only once has he ever even considered killing and that was Doomsday because he did try and the comic Doomsday was a mindless brute who only wanted to kill. So he had no other choice. Hells in the last Silver Age story "Whatever happened to the Man of Tomorrow" Superman accidentally kills Mr. Mxyzptlk he feels so guilty he walks into a room of gold kryptonite and permanently strips him of his powers. In the movie Superman puts Zod in a headlock and after a min or so snaps his neck to save a group of people. Umm maybe fly up? Smash his head into the ground? Slide an arm over his eyes (taking the hit like Superman would have)?
But that was Man of Steel, this is a different movie. Nope same Superman, same continuity. They want to build on to it, like Marvel did with Avengers. DC wants a Justice League movie in a bad way. So instead of trying to either fix this (which is damn near impossible) or reboot it (to get it right) they keep on thundering forward. Ben Affleck as Batman? Ok he could do good, and including him is good as at this point who doesn't know the Batman origin but they why include Wonder Woman? Why keep adding more and more characters to a story when each should get their own movie to develop them. Because that makes sense, and will have a bunch of well developed characters. But it also takes longer and planning. Why do all that whey you can create shovelware and pump out some crap that will (in theory) make money. Unless people are smart and don't go to these movies.
But then again I may be wrong, I'm just one guy with an opinion.

Canada Post ending home delivery
So I read up on Canada Posts decision to end home delivery. A lot of people have raged about it since the announcement about a month ago. Oh 6,000 to 8,0000 people will loose there job! We will have to go so far to get the mail! The cost is going up! How can the government do this?
First off, calm your damn tits people. Yes there will be losses of positions, but Canada Post figures 15,000 people will be leaving or retiring over the same period. So really to maintain the projected levels they need to hire 11,000 to 13,000 people. Which means there will end up needing to hire more people than they let go, unless my math is completely wrong.
Second walking to get the mail. Yes there will be some people who have difficulties to go and get it. For these people it will suck. But for the majority there should be no problems to walk a short distance to get their mail.Also at my parents home, they have never had home delivery. In the 25 years (or so) they have lived there, we have had to walk to a community mail box. At the farthest location for this set of boxes a person had to walk a block, maybe a block and a half, so even in winter it wasn't that far. Finally the larger parcels. Instead of them being left outside the door you get a note saying go to this location to retrieve the package. Hmm wait isn't that a better idea meaning its less likely the item will get stolen or damaged?
Third the costs are going up. No shit, the cost for everything is going up. The wages paid to the postal employees has increased, the costs associated with the postal service have increased, more pension money is needed to be paid out. As such, the postal service is not making as much to cover its costs. Also how many letters or parcels does the average person send out a month? Personally I send out a few a month, by personal choice. Hells even a year? I have relatives and friends who send out maybe two items a year. Why? Easy the Internet, sending emails is faster, plus text messages and simmilar ways of communicating. So between these of course the postal services will be used less. Less use means less money. So cover these costs prices need to increase.

Unfinished Games and Final Fantasy 12 (January 8)
So since I have a lot more free time now, taking the semester off from university, I have decided to return to a couple of games I really enjoy, but for the most part, never got around to finishing. Usually this is because something new will come out and I move on to that or I get busy with other non gaming related things (work, school, etc). So I have made a list to decide what I want to actually play
My to finish list of games
Final Fantasy 12 {PS2}
InFamouse 1 and 2 {PS3}
Uncharted 1, 2 and 3 {PS3}
Mass Effect 1, 2 and 3 (renegade, female and various other combinations) {PC}
Fallout : New Vegas (all factions but NCR and Lonesome Road) {PC}
Bastion {PC}
For the record this was just a simple list in which i did from the top of my head. With one exception : Final Fantasy XII. Now I have played quite a few of the Final Fantasy games (1, 2, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 10-2 and 13) and I have enjoyed them all except for that piece of crap called FF 13.But I have only actually completed a few of them, being 1, 7, 10, and 10-2. So I have decided to go back to 12, which I really enjoyed. However its been a long time since I played so I have restarted. And for my own personal enjoyment I have decided to document my playing.
Restarting I remembered how pretty the cut scenes are. And how much I like most of these characters. The tutorial section is really good at setting up the story and introducing one of the main characters Basch fon Ronsenburg. Basch kicks a lot of ass, even though he is only a companion for this part.A temporary character who does have an impact on the plot after this but will never be seen again (for a good reason) Beyond story and Basch the tutiroal is not bad. But I have played this a few times so if I could skip it I would.
More cut scenes. skipping these as I have watched these ones a number of times. Probably saved about 5 min of time, but the short is now everyone thinks Basch is a bad guy, the king is dead (for real) and the princess killed herself. Oh and the giant empire now controls the city.
OK now back and introducing the players avatar Vaan. A decent character, not annoying (thank gods.) For the first two hours or so he is often the only character in the party. And going into a city or town will remove the other active party members while there and leaving us with only Vaan. Wish i could switch to one of the other characters. But get the first quest, a kill quest, complete it and go to level 3. Then back into the city for a few (skipped) cut scenes and get some quests (don't touch that chest there)and out to the south. Oh and once in the litttle town, get the second party member Penelo. Hmm let me see she is pretty much the best mage, so time to use magic like its going out of style with her, Vaan keeps hitting stuff with his sword for now., Do the quest in this area and get to level 4 1/2 and head back. But stop plot, lets go do a quick side (kill) quest, in a new area. Then back to town, and take the gear off Penelo for now, because she leaves for quite a while.(Ignore that same chest) So back to soloing with Vaan. So after all this can we get out of the deserts for a bit?
Now for a solid story run., Go into the sewers (why sewer level?) but at least its pretty, and not a desert. Run through this short part and then up some stairs to the basement of the palace (more chests to ignore.) Taunt some guards and run from them to progress. Then into the 'hidden' door and some cut scenes (time to start watching them) and met two new party members who will become permanent members, Balthier the sky pirate and Fran the bunny girl, both equip with ranged weapons for now. I have plans for each party member how I will build them. But until I can actually buy or steal the weapon type I want for them they will use whatever works. So continue through the palace and end up back into the sewers with a couple of really pretty cut scenes.
Now we met a new guest character Amalia. hmm she looks really familiar. Oh no time to think its time for our first real boss fight, a bunch of oozes. Burn you piles of goo! After the nice victory posing scene (hmm haven't seen this before in the game, glad they kept it in and its rare usage) we run through the sewers killing anything that moves for the XP and LP, OK almost out, quick save here and ooh that is one pretty angry horse composed entirely of fire? Oh hells kill it! And since it was a boss, after dropping it we get the victory poses and music, Now up the stairs to the town to sell... wait a cut scene where I get captured? Well crap.
So after all that the party is in jail, Amalia is gone, Balthir is sitting there and where did Fran go? Oh and for fun all my gear is gone to, but I can still use the small amount of magic I have bought, And now a small boss-ish fight (no posing after) with only Vaan? Oh thank gods Balthir jumps down and we go 2 on 3. Eat lightning ya buggers. Then oh Fran shows up and we run the hells away and (plot powers activate) there is out gear, (don't touch anything in the room, save and go by).Now we have a choice, go silently and attack only a few if we need to or kill anything that moves. This is an RPG so of course we go with the second option.. Hmm what's down here? A cut scene and hey its Basch. and he is just as bad ass, going up and punching stuff for now like a boss. But he is a guest so don't have him in the party, Yet. Continue through this dark underground passageway, get a cut scene, kill some bugs and upgrade some weapons. Still nothing I want, but will give Balthir a sword and Fran a dagger so they attack faster and do more damage. Oh and a boss at the end of the tunnel right before the door, Well where else would it be? Take down the giant ass electric eating spider and oh hells its a load bearing boss. Run out (in a cut scene) and into the .... oh back into the desert we were in back when we started our adventures, Well whatever we now have to go back to the town. But first a quick trip north to get to the small village by the river. And this is where I will stop for today, four hours in. My party will rest here then we go back to the town and plot.
