Dissapointed in where DC comic movies are going

So casting news has been hitting a lot lately for Superman vs Batman. Now I am a huge DC comics fan but will admit they have their flaws. I only read 2 currently (Batgirl and Earth-2) I do keep up on some of what is going on. But as for movies there hasn't been a good one in a number of years.

With the DC movies in the past, well the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy was really good, for what it was, though the third one was a weak Batman movie but a decent Bruce Wayne movie. But before that the haven't been a lot of good movies. I mean there wasn't a lot to choose from, really since 1978 there have been 2 good Superman movies (Superman 1 and 2,) 2 good Batman movies (Batman and Batman Returns) an entertaining one of each (Superman 3 and Batman Forever) and then seven bad ones (Superman 4, Supergirl, Batman & Robin, Steel, Catwoman, Jonah Hex and Superman Returns) and one giant cluster fuck piece of shit (Man of Steel.) Green Lantern was entertaining, with one flaw (why did they name the bad guy Parallax?)  and Watchmen was good. Apparently there were also 2 Swamp Thing movies, but I have never heard of them before today.

So why am I not caring about Superman vs Batman? Well the first tip why was where I put Man of Steel. I have not seen it but I have no plans ever to. Why? Well I have seen enough reviews and commentaries about it, bias and unbiased to tell me everything I would want to know about it. But my mind was made up long before the movie came out. The first trailer that came out had the scene with Johnathan Kent (Kevin Costner) talking to teenage Clark about saving the bus full of kids, when Clark asked should i have let them die and Johnathan says maybe. Maybe? No BULLSHIT!!!! That is not what that character would ever EVER say! The answer was yes, you should have saved them, it was the right thing to do, but you should have tried harder to have stayed hidden. Help people but stay hidden. This movie says no stay hidden, stay hidden, stay hidden, stay hidden! Just from that one trailer scene, to me this movie showed that they have no realy grasp on the characters they are working with. They compleatly buggered up Pa Kent , who built the foundation of Superman,

Oh and since I am ranting, Pa Kent suicide by tornado. Ok that was another stupid decision. In every other version Pa Kent dies in, he has a heart attack. This is so that Clark knows that sometimes there are things that happen that he has no control over or that he can do anything about. But in this one he goes out and makes a 'noble' sacrifice to keep his son safe. The son who could have easily gotten the dog back quicker (even if he wasn't super.) But oh no don't save me son, instead I'll traumatize you by dying in a way that you could have easily save me from. And then never show Clark dealing with what happens, he just wanders around for a decade or so, This is a movie, for things like this you must show at least two scenes, one of the grief stricken character and another with them moving on. Same thing with at the end when Superman kills Zod.

As for the killing thing, Superman does not kill. Superman will always do everything possible, and then some to avoid killing. He will throw himself infront of other and take the beating himself to save one person. Only once has he ever even considered killing and that was Doomsday because he did try and the comic Doomsday was a mindless brute who only wanted to kill. So he had no other choice. Hells in the last Silver Age story "Whatever happened to the Man of Tomorrow" Superman accidentally kills Mr.  Mxyzptlk he feels so guilty he walks into a room of gold kryptonite  and permanently strips him of his powers. In the movie Superman puts Zod in a headlock and after a min or so snaps his neck to save a group of people. Umm maybe fly up? Smash his head into the ground? Slide an arm over his eyes (taking the hit like Superman would have)?

But that was Man of Steel, this is a different movie. Nope same Superman, same continuity. They want to build on to it, like Marvel did with Avengers. DC wants a Justice League movie in a bad way. So instead of trying to either fix this (which is damn near impossible) or reboot it (to get it right) they keep on thundering forward. Ben Affleck as Batman? Ok he could do good, and including him is good as at this point who doesn't know the Batman origin but they why include Wonder Woman? Why keep adding more and more characters to a story when each should get their own movie to develop them.  Because that makes sense, and will have a bunch of well developed characters. But it also takes longer and planning. Why do all that whey you can create shovelware and pump out some crap that will (in theory) make money. Unless people are smart and don't go to these movies.

But then again I may be wrong, I'm just one guy with an opinion.
